Monday, Tammuz 12, 5775. June 29, 2015. Shalom! World. The Octavio Café, brought together a rare combination: an audacious space in its arquitecture design, impeccable service, a menu for discerning tastes, and a selective price, that is, is not cheap. Located on av. Faria Lima 2996, it serves to support his customers working in his qualifying neighborhood. The atmosphere is inviting, the wifi conection is good, however, i did not say that its perfect, the Octavio sins with a detail that bothers, and is a public health concern,  the insects. Being located in the margins of Pinheiros river, the drawback is serious. The pest control market has technology to solve such a problem. However, you must to visit it.  Shalom! Aleichem. Thrusday, Tammuz 8, 5775. June 25, 2015. Shalom! World. The first mention of the Jewish population in Warszawa dates back to the fifteenth century. Poland was then famous for its tolerance, which attracted many visitors. At first Jews settled in the Old Town, in Zydowska (Jewish) Street that does not exist today. With time, however, their growing prosperity caused that Warszawa burghers banned Jews from living within the city limits. For this reason, Jews started to settle near Warszawa - the memory of one of their settlements has survived in the name of Aleje Jerozolimskie (Jerusalem Avenue).  Aleje Jerozolimskie (Jerusalem Avenue) Joanna Rajkowska In 1977, near the present Zawiszy Square, a Jewish settlement called New Jerusalem was established - the road leading to it was called the Jerusalem Road. Warszawa authorities, recognising it as competition in trade, liquidated it a year later, but the name has survived to this day. The installation of Joanna R...

Yom Sheni, Sivan 28, 5775. Monday, June 15, 2015. Shalom! World. The symboolic gesture of suppression of the uprising was blowing up the Great Synagogue on May 16, 1943. The heroic resistence of the Jews against the nazis is today commemorated by the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes. The Monument to the Ghetto Heroes (Pomnik Bohaterow Getta) was erected in 1948, when the city of Warszawa still lay in ruins. Created by the sculptor Natan Rapaport and the architect Marek Suzin, it symbolizes the heroic defiance of the Ghetto Uprising of 1943, which was planned not as a bid for liberty but as an honourable way to die. It lasted one month. The west side of the monument entitled "Fight", shows men, women and children holding grenades, guns and bottles of gasoline in their hands. This side of the monument symbolises the heroic uprising of insurgents. The side entitled "March to death" represents the suffering and martyrdom of innocent victims. Copi...

Tuesday, Sivan 22, 5775. June 9, 2015. Shalom! World. After the deportation, tens of thousands of people remained in the Ghetto, some of whom had been hiding. There was a decision on armed struggle. the Warszawa Ghetto Uprising broke out on April 19, 1943. Jewish fighters were not adequately equipped or trainned, but still they put up prolonged resistence. The result, however, was doomed. On May 8, 1943, the germans discovered and surrounded the headquarters of the Jewish Combat Organization, whose members commited suicide in the bunker in Mila Street. Mila street, the corner of S. Dubois Street - former location of the house that used to be located here served as the headquarters bunker of the Jewish Combat Organization. It served as a shelter for more than 100 people. When it was discovered by german troops, most of the rebels staying in it, headed by the leader of the uprising Mordechai Anielewicz, commited suicide. After the war, in 1946, a mound was formed an...

Friday, Sivan 18, 5775. June 5, 2015. Shalom! World. Until 1989, communist cast a shadow over the polish-Jewish relations. As a result of the anti-Jewish campaign of 1968, about 15 thousand people of Jewish origin left Poland. In sovereign Poland Warsaw is once again the centre of Jewish life, which is focused around Grzybowski Square. There is the only pre-war Syangogue in the city - the Nozyk Synagogue. The Nozyk Synagogue is found at ulica Twarda 6. The neo-Romanesque building was built in 1898-1902 on the initiative of Zalman and Rivka Nozyk. During the war the germans converted it into stables. Despite the damage, shortly after the war it regained its original function. In addition to religious services, various cultural events such  as concerts, exhibitions, and meetings are also held in the Synagogue. In the vicinity of the Synagogue, there is the seat of  the Jewish commune. It is located in the building wich before the war housed, among other ...
