The Konzentrationslager Flossenbürg was established in May 1938 during the SS reorganization of the entire concentration camp system. In the new system, the purpose of the camp was no longer only to imprision and terrorize political opponents of the Nazi regime. Rather, the SS now also aimed to profit from the exploitation of prisoner labor. Prisoners were put to work in SS-owned economic enterprises for the production of building materials. To this end, the SS founded new camps, and deported ever larger numbers of people to the camps. The construction of new camps began in 1936-37 with the founding of the Sachsenhausen and Buchenwald camps. SS economic interests played an increasing role in the selection of new camp sites. Monday, Tevet 11, 5777. January 9, 2017. Shalom! World. Bamberg, city in Bavaria, Germany. There were Jews living in Bamberg before the First Crusade (1096), when were forcibly baptized but later allowed to return to Judaism. Establishments in the medieval "Jewish Lane" (today Pfahlplaetzchen) included a dance hall for weddings, a hostel ( hekdesh ) for the needy sick and transients, a mikveh , and a Synagogue. In 1298 during *Rindfleisch massacres 135 Jews were martyred in Bamberg. During the persecution following the outbreak of the Black Death in 1348 the Jews there set fire to their homes and perished in flames. Between the 14th and 17th centuries Jews repeatedly attempted to settle in Bamberg, paying high "protection" taxes, only to be later attacked and expelled. RASHI SYNAGOGUE, WORMS/GERMANY Sunday, Tevet 3, 5777. January 1, 2017 Shalom! World. The word 'messiah' is the anglicisation of the Hebrew 'moshiach'. The word moshiach translates to 'anointed'. The title of moshiach was given to any person who was appropriately anointed with oil as part of their initiation to their service of haShem. We have had many moshiachim in the form of kings, priests. prophets, and judges. There is absolutely nothing supernatural about a moshiach and the Christian concept of 'Crist' is completely absent from Judaism. This being said, there is a prophecy of a future moshiach, however this is a relatively minor topic in Judaism and the Tanach. The Jewish requirements of hamoshiach are: 1) Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28); 2) Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6); 3) Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease.
