But there are tens of thousands of them all over Germany and Europe, in cities, towns and villages large and small. What are they? Stolpersteine - literally "stumbling stones" - are bronze plaques cemented into the sidewalk outside the homes of Jews deported during the Third Reich. Each tells the simple story of what happened to a single individual - like this one in Bamberg a memorial to a German Jew born in 1861, Karolina Lobl, who was deported in 1942 first to Konzentrationslager Theresienstadt (Czech Republic) and then to Treblinka where was killed in 1942.      EUGENIO COEN SACERDOTI AND AMALIA DINA COEN SACERDOTI -  PADOVA/ITALY RUZENA BERGMANNOVÁ, BEILA BERGMANNOVÁ AND ALOIS BERGMANN. Sunday, Elul 29, 5778. September 9, 2018. Shalom! World. Mikulov, Czech Republic. Though it is nuclear when the cemetery was established, it must have been soon after the Jewish settlement began, meaning in the middle of the  15th century at the latest. It was expanded several times for lack of space and it is likely that there are layers of gaves. Several importante Moravian provincial rabbis are buried on the Rabbi's Mound, like Menachem Mendl Krochmal, Shmuel Shmelke Horovitz and Mordechai Benet.  Covering an área of almost two hectares, Mikulov Jewish cemetery is full of Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist tombstones whose design and ornamentation became the model for other South Moravian Jewish cemeteries.
