JACOB JR, MY JEWISH WORLD. STROLLING AROUND THE GDANSK/POLAND

Image
Friday, Elul 27, 5779. September 27, 2019. Shalom! World. Gdansk- Poland. Gdansk is a beautiful city located on the Baltic Sea. It is often overlooked by many travelers, in favor of more popular spots like Warszawa, Krakow, and Wroclaw. However, this city is well worth the journey north.   On the fastest of  itineraries, Gdansk can be zipped through in one day. However if you want the best experience, plan on spending at least two to three days. This gives you enough time to explore the old city, visit two of the best museums in Poland, and eat your heart out at some amazing restaurants. You can also take several day trips, if you have more time. Get your Baltic beach time in at Sopot and Gydnia and visit Malbork, the largest fortress in the world. JACOB JR, MY JEWISH WORLD. STROLLING AROUND THE ZUG. ZUG/SWITZERLAND.

Wednesday, Elul 25, 5779. September 25, 2019. Shalom! World. Zug, Switzerland. Zug is the capital and biggest town of the canton of Zug in Switzerland. Its name originates from the fishing vocabulary; in the Middle Ages it referred to the right to pull up fishing nets and hence to the right fish. Zug is a wonderful opportunity to spend a day, just 25 minutes by train from Zürich, During the turmoil of the Reformation, Zug remained on the Catholic side of central Switzerland and retained the old faith. Warring religious confederates fought at Kappel am Albis (1531) and at Gubel in Menzingen. Its location on the edge of central Switzerland made Zug, a confessional border town. During the Reformation, Zug clung to the old faith and a member of the Christliche Vereinigung of 1529. In  1586, it became a member of the Golden League. Shalom! Aleichem. Monday, Elul 23, 5779. September 23, 2019. Shalom! World. Füssen - Germany. Many travellers overlook Füssen as they pass by on their way to the region's most popular tourist attraction, Neuschwanstein Castle, but it offers plenty of things for the visitor to see and do. After spending a few days in Füssen, i've  found many fabulous reasons why you should visit this charming Bavarian town.  One of the first things you shoud do when you visit Füssen is wander the streets of the Old Town. The pedestrianised Altstadt (Old Town) is a pretty blend of brighthy coloured buildings, many of which are adorned with  frescoes, Next stop  on your Füssen sightseeing itinerary should be the High Castle of Füssen, officially called the Hohes Schloss. Once the summer residence of the Lord Bishops of Augsburg, the late-Gothic style Füssen castle features a courtyard adorned with 500 year old trompe l'oiels and a attractive clock tower with a brigh...

Friday, Elul 20, 5779. September 20, 2019. Lódz, Poland. Shalom! World. Lodz is the third-largest city in Poland and a former industrial  hub. Located in the central part of the country, it has a population of 685,285 (2018). It is located 120 kilometres south-west of Warszawa. After Poland regained its independence in 1918, Lodz grew to be  one of the largest Polish cities and one of the most multicultural and industrial centers in Europe. The interbellum period saw rapid development in education and healthcare.  After the invasion of Poland in 1939, the German Army captured the city and renamed it Litzmannstadt in honour of the German general Karl Litzmann, who was victorious near the area during World War I.  The city's large Jewish population was forced into a walled zone known as the Lodz Ghett, from which they were sent to  German concentration and extermination camps.  Lodz are full of cultural attrations ...
