Shalom! World.

Built in 1909, this neo-Romanesque Synagogue with an eight-sided tower and Torah shaped windows was used as a christian church for american soldiers in 1945 and as a Czech Hussite church from 1945 to 1968. It later fell into disrepair. In 1997 it was restituted to the Jewish community, which partenered with the Cesky Krumlov Development Fund (an independent entity owned by the municipality), to restore the building as a cultural venuewith a permanente exhibition about Jewish history in the town installed in the entryway/winter shul.

The Temple was cronstructed, following the purchase of a garden plot, according to the plans of achitect Kafka from Praha, it was built by builder Sosna and master builder Hauber. Among others, the temple building commitee comprised: Ludwig Spiro, Dr. Emanuel Spiro, Dr, Schwarz, Julius Spiro, Dr. Kohn, Dr. Loria, Ignaz Lederer, S. Kobias and Julius Epstein. Each of them supported the project with their actions and their advice. The temple is trully an adornment for the town. Its tower is visible all around, and it has space for 140-180 persons. A good harmonium, and an excellent choir leader and a well-trained choir ensure devotion and inspiration.

The first temple committee consisted of Jacob Bloch, Ignaz Lederer, Michael Metzl, regional counselor Dr. Urbach, and Max Knöpfelmacher. The first two gentlemen were in office for decades until their death.

Sunday, Elul 21, 5781. August 29, 2021.  Shalom! World. Turnov Jewish Cemetery. Sobotecka,  Turnov - Czech Republic.  The Jewish cemetery in Turnov dates back to the 17th century. The land for a Jewish cemetery was purchased by Albrecht of Wallenstein as early as in the 1625 and the oldest surviving tombstone goes back to 1649. During its existence, it was expanded twice. The last burial took place here in 1956. At present, there is a bridge of the motorway passing through the town in the direction of Jicin over a part of the cemetery, which was planned in the late seventies and was constructed in 1987-91. Since 1994, the cemetery has been administered by Matana, a joint-stock company founded by the Federation of Jewish Communities for the purpose of caring for real estare.  Jewish cemeteries were usually located on slopes or otherwise unfavourable places that the christian society had little interest in.
