Yom Shishi. Friday, 25 Sivan, 5776. July 1, 2016.
Shalom! World.
Shalom! World.
The Jewish Cemetery in Cesky Krumlov is located 900mts NE of the square in Hrbitovni ulici, adjacento to the town cemetery. Established in 1891, the unlandemarked cemetery is surrounded by a nearly 3 meters high brick wall with entrance gates forged with Star of David motif. The about 100 tombstones visible date from the establishment of the cemetery in the first half of 20th century. In 1937 Rabbi Prof. Dr. Leopold Hirsch was buried there. The latest tombstone is from 1993. The 1893 cerimonial hall preserves the reading desk. Currently ongoing maintenance should continue in the future as well as complete reconstruction of the cerimonial hall, damaged sections of wall and reestablishment of toppled tombstones form the 19th centuryand early 20th century.
The registers noted that the last burial took place in 1967, but we found a gravestone marked 1993.
Shalom! Aleichem.
