Gmunden/Áustria The Rathausplatz, formerly known as the 'Lower Square' or the Lower Market Square', once covered the área from the Trauntor (Traun  Gate), now the Kammerhofgasse, to the 'Christophstor' (Christopher's Gate), now known as Stadttheater/Theatergasse. Since 1st May 1839 it has been the dock for the Traunsee fleet which takes numerous people to the places of interest along the banks of the Traunsee. Fromm 1835 to 1871 the "Rathausplatz" was the terminal for the freight cars of the horse-drawn railway, Budweis - Linz _Gmunden, which transported the salt. In 1874, the waters of the lake still reached as far as a few meters from the Town Hall. The Drogerka Café is easly noted in Mikulov streets, 'cause the building is very special by the architecture and color. Sunday, Cheshvan 12, 5779. October 21, 2018. Shalom! World. Lednice Jewish Cemetery. Mikulovsha Street. Population with no Jews! Earliest known Jewish community was after 1670. Jewish community ceased in 1890. 1930 Jewish population was 32. The Jewish cemetery originated in 17th century with last known Conservative Jewish burial before 1942. The isolated suburban hillside has no sign. Landmarked: nr. 1378 S.M.) Reached by turning directly off a public road, access is open to all via a broken masonry wall and no  gate. Size of cemetery before and after WWII: 0.1212 ha.  One walled-up gravestone is in the cemetery. Some stones removed from the cemetery were reburied here and then stolen. The municipallity owns the property used as a park. Adjacent properties are agricultural and residential. Rarely, private visitors stop. Vandalism occured from 1945 on. No maintenance or care. Wednesday, Cheshvan 8, 5779. October 17, 2018. Shalom! World. The  Ort  Castle. Gmunden/Áustria. The Ort Castle have had many owners in the cause of its long history. A 130 m long wooden bridge brings you into the renaissance inner courtyard of the lake castle, which is owned by the town council of Gmunden since 1995 (In 1915 the castle were given to the Austrian Forestry Commission). On the left hand side of the inner courtyard you will find flood markings meaning that the flood in 1594 reached a height of 2,97m in the courtyard of the castle, thus reaching the upper step of the stairway. Sunday, Cheshvan 5, 5779. October 14, 2018. Shalom! World. Valtice Castle Valtice (in German Feldsberg) was as late as  the end of World War I a part  of Lower Áustria. Its connection with the Czechoslovak Republic came about as part of  the peace treaty that was signed in Saint-Germain-en-Laye near Paris on 10th September, 1919. The treaty came into effect on 9th August, 1920; and the take-over of Valtice by the Czechoslovak authority took place on 1st July 1920. The very first time known written about Valtice (written as Veldesperch at  the time) comes from 10th January 1193. The Emperor Henry VI confirmed by deed its Exchange between Passau Bishop Wolfger and the new acquirer Wichard of Seefeld in Bavarian Regensburg. Even before this date, a fortified building stood in Valtice probably with clay and wooden ramparts and a bricked residential core. Sunday, Tishrei 28, 5779. October 7, 2018. Shalom! World. Villa Toscana, Gmunden/Áustria. Villa Toscana in Gmunden am Traunsee in Upper Áustria is a castle villa built inn the 19th century. Together with the Little Villa Toscana and Toscanapark it forms na importante building ensemble. The property is located on the peninsula right by the Landschloss Ort and today's Toscana Congress Center. Villa Toscana was built between 1870 and 1877 in the middle of the  large park as a prince's residence of the widowed Grand Duchess of Tuscany Maria Antonie of Naples-Sicily. The real architect was the youngest of her tem children, Johann Salvator. The villa is executed in antique Greek style of a historicist post-classicism. Wednesday, Tishrei 24, 5779. October 3, 2018. Shalom! World. Café Dolce Vita. Address: Namesti 29. Mikulov/Czech Republic. On the main square of Mikulov, is the Café Dolce Vita. This is  a perfect spot to take a break for a touring. The Schanigarten is totally charming with the arch ways enveloped by vines and flowers. Of course the local Moravian wine is Always recommended here but they make a perfectAperol spritzer for a summer day's libation. And if you sit long enough at a table here, you'll see every tourist in Mikulov because sooner or later a visitor to the  castle has to  walk by Café Dolce Vita. Shalom! Aleichem.
