The Mikulov Castle. Mikulov/Czech Republic


The Baroque chateau is in the dominant of Mikulov and is now allso the seat of the Regional Museum of  Mikulov, where you can find the most extensive domestic exposition on wine-growing and wine-making, including a unique giant wine barrel. The Picture gallery will remind you of the Dichtristein family under whose reign the town flourished for several centuries. You should also visit the chateau library and the Romans and Germans in the Region under Pálava  exposition, which talks about the inhabitants of the region two thousand years ago.  


The silhouette of  this monumental castle in South Moravia is visible from afar. In its time it has played host to a number of importante personalities, such as French Emperor Napoleon Bonapart. Here visitors can see various museum exhibitions, paintings from the collection of the Dietrichstein family, a library.


The Baroque castle standing on a rock Cliff has been a landmark of the moravian town of Mikulov for several centuries. In 1945, when the German Army was retreating, it was totally destroyed by fire; however, i underwent intensive renovation and was opened afain just a few years later. 


The castle Garden in Mikulov is one of largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. It consists of terraces built on diferent levels around the hill on which the castle stands. The Garden is only open in the main tourist season from April to September.

Sunday, Elul 21, 5781. August 29, 2021.  Shalom! World. Turnov Jewish Cemetery. Sobotecka,  Turnov - Czech Republic.  The Jewish cemetery in Turnov dates back to the 17th century. The land for a Jewish cemetery was purchased by Albrecht of Wallenstein as early as in the 1625 and the oldest surviving tombstone goes back to 1649. During its existence, it was expanded twice. The last burial took place here in 1956. At present, there is a bridge of the motorway passing through the town in the direction of Jicin over a part of the cemetery, which was planned in the late seventies and was constructed in 1987-91. Since 1994, the cemetery has been administered by Matana, a joint-stock company founded by the Federation of Jewish Communities for the purpose of caring for real estare.  Jewish cemeteries were usually located on slopes or otherwise unfavourable places that the christian society had little interest in.
