This Polish castle is found near the Baltic Sea and the City of Gdansk, which is a polular stop for cruise ships navigating the Baltic Sea. It's possible to do a Malbork Castle tour in just half a day, since the drive out to Malbork take less than an hour. I did my visit from Warszawa by train morning 07:25 from Centralna and arrived in Malbork 09:48 costs Zloty147,00.

This makes it one of the most popular day trips from Gdansk and Sopot, and some people travel from as far as Warszawa to see this spectacle.






Completed in the early 1400s by the Teutonic Knights of the Germany military order, Malbork Castle sprawls out over 52 acres and is considered the largest brick structure ever build with humans hands. Those Germans sure didn't mess around! Originally named Marienburg (Mary's Castle), the mammoth complex made up of three separate castles is a masterpiece of fortification, and was used as the headquarters of the crusaders. At one point, approximately three thousand men were housed in the barracks.






Unfortunately, even a compound as fortified as Malbork Castle couldn't escape the horrors of World War II, and in 1945 it was badly damaged to the point it was reduced to little more than ruins. Thanks to a gargatuan undertaking, it was since been raised from the ashes and painttakingly rebuilt, earning a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation in 1997 as well as being named one of Poland's official historic monuments.

Sunday, Elul 21, 5781. August 29, 2021.  Shalom! World. Turnov Jewish Cemetery. Sobotecka,  Turnov - Czech Republic.  The Jewish cemetery in Turnov dates back to the 17th century. The land for a Jewish cemetery was purchased by Albrecht of Wallenstein as early as in the 1625 and the oldest surviving tombstone goes back to 1649. During its existence, it was expanded twice. The last burial took place here in 1956. At present, there is a bridge of the motorway passing through the town in the direction of Jicin over a part of the cemetery, which was planned in the late seventies and was constructed in 1987-91. Since 1994, the cemetery has been administered by Matana, a joint-stock company founded by the Federation of Jewish Communities for the purpose of caring for real estare.  Jewish cemeteries were usually located on slopes or otherwise unfavourable places that the christian society had little interest in.
