Weimar - centre of European culture.
Weimar's reputation as a centre of art and culture has attracted visitors from all over the world up to the present day. They can follow the traces of classicist and post-classicist Weimar as well as the traditions of the modern movement and Bauhaus in the nuseums in the historic town centre and spacious parks.
A cultural highlight in the history of Weimar was the work of Johann Sebastian Bach in the town. J. S. Bach served as court organist and musician in the court orchestra from 1708 and a concert master
from 1714.

Weimar experienced a great cultural upturn during its "Golden Age'. Leading writers - Christoph Martin Wielend, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried Herder and Friedrich von Schiller. 
The era of the Weimar Republic began with the November revolution of 1918 and ended in 1933.
Weimar was the first venue for the National Assembly elected in January 1919. After the November revolution of 1918, the parlamentarians of the new republic, the National Assembly, convened in Weimar to debate the German constitution, whch has passed in August 1919. The 423 delegates convened in the Weimar German National Theatre from February 6th to September 30th 1919. After this the National Assembly met again in the capital Berlin.
Weimar boast an unusual number of museums and parks closely connected with German history, art, music and literature. It is almost impossible to explore all these places on a single visit to the town. With teh neighbouring towns Erfurt, Jena e Apolda. Weimar forms a cultural centre in the heart of Thuringia.

Today Weimar has a population of about 64,000 making it the fourth largest town in Thuringia. Every year, 5,000-6,000 students come to Weimar to study at Bauhaus University or the conservatoire Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT.

Sunday, Elul 21, 5781. August 29, 2021.  Shalom! World. Turnov Jewish Cemetery. Sobotecka,  Turnov - Czech Republic.  The Jewish cemetery in Turnov dates back to the 17th century. The land for a Jewish cemetery was purchased by Albrecht of Wallenstein as early as in the 1625 and the oldest surviving tombstone goes back to 1649. During its existence, it was expanded twice. The last burial took place here in 1956. At present, there is a bridge of the motorway passing through the town in the direction of Jicin over a part of the cemetery, which was planned in the late seventies and was constructed in 1987-91. Since 1994, the cemetery has been administered by Matana, a joint-stock company founded by the Federation of Jewish Communities for the purpose of caring for real estare.  Jewish cemeteries were usually located on slopes or otherwise unfavourable places that the christian society had little interest in.
