Thursday, Adar 21, 5775. March 12, 2015. Shalom! World.  The Former Academy of Sages of Lublin was financed from contributions of Jewish communities from all over the world and opened  in 1930. At the time it was the largest Talmudic school in the world. The imposing edifice was designed by Agenor Smoluchowski and erected in the years 1924-1930. Yeshiva was closed down by the nazis in 1939. After World War II it was given to the Medical Academy and housed the Collegium Maius until 2003. Presently it belongs to the Jewish Community in Warszawa - the Branch in Lublin, Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, was one of the largest Jewish educational initiatives in Orthodox circles in the interwar period, not only in Poland, but even in Europe. Modern, well equipped, the Lublin yeshiva was to be a world center of Talmud study training young students of Torah of Poland and the world. Wednesday, Adar 20, 5775. March 11, 2015. Shalom! World. The Railway Station. The original, outstanding edifice of the train station was built according to W. Lanci's design in the years 1875-1877, and then remodelled in 1893 following J. Olbrycht's designs. The present-day exterior of the building, featuring elemnts typical of a manor house, is a result of the rebuilding in the years 1923-24 based onn J. Muller's design. Jews have likely appeared here inn the 14th c. but a organised Jewish community was probably founded only in the first half of the 15th c. Its members were banned from settling to within the city walls, so the 'Jewish town' developed in the area surrounding the castle. Monday, Adar 18, 5775. March 9, 2015 Shalom! World. A liberação. Após a retirada do antigo comando e da guarda SS, uma outra unidade da SS, assumiu a guarda dos prisioneiros em 28 de abril de 1945, em KZ Dachau. No mesmo dia o representante da Cruz Vermelha Internacional, Victor Maurer, iniciou negociações para a rendição do KZ com as tropas norte-americanas. A tropa norte-americana recebeu a ordem de tomar KZ Dachau em 29 de abril. O comando avançado do 7º Exército, liderado pelo Brigadeiro General Henning Linden (42º Divisão de Infantaria " Rainbow "), acompanhado por alguns jornalistas, aceitou a rendição da guarda alemã, no portão principal do KZ Dachau sob o comando de Heinrich Wicker. Neste mesmo momento, membros da 45º Divisão de Infantaria " Thunderbird ", sob a liderança do Tenente Coronel Felix L. Sparks, invadia o KZ pelo lado oeste. Sunday, Adar 17, 5775. March 8, 2015 Shalom! World. Resistência durante os últimos dias. Durante o mês de abril de 1945, em KZ Dachau, os prisioneiros detidos na enfermaria, elegeram inicialmente lideranças dentro do âmbito nacional e posteriormente constituíram uma liderança internacional, para representá-los. O grupo foi formado por: Arthur Haulot e Albert Guérisse (belgas); Kazimierz Maliszewski (polonês); Edmond Michelet (francês) e Ali Kuci (albanês).  Em 24 de abril de 1945, o líder da SS em Dachau, criou um grupo policial auxiliar, composto por prisioneiros alemães e alguns prisioneiros de outras nacionalidades, que se identificavam com uma braçadeira com as seguintes iniciais: HP ( Hilfs-polizst ; auxiliar policial). Os prisioneiros secretamente produziram braçadeiras falsas e distribuíram entre os amigos mais próximos. Wednesday, Adar 13, 5775. March 4, 2015. Shalom! World. O assassinato dos prisioneiros incapazes de trabalhar. O programa de eutanásia, codificado como "14f13" foi concluído no ano de 1942 em Dachau. Contudo nas enfermarias, o resultado era o mesmo, porém sob a justificativa de descartar os incapazes de trabalhar. Esse procedimento era cíclico, por um período a cada três meses. Eles eram assassinados por injeções ou mesmo deixados para morrer: nas barracas dos inválidos ou deportados para os campos de extermínio como Auschwitz e Madjanek. Os mentalmente incapazes. O assassinato dos mentalmente incapazes era regularmente efetuado por injeções mortais. Em 24 de abril de 1945, o Dr. Hintermaier trouxe 18 jovens prisioneiros, que sofriam de doenças mentais, diretamente para o crematório onde foram mortos por injeções letais. This excellent museum and research centre commemorates Jewish vitims of the Holocaust and celebrates Jewish culture in Galicia past, present and future. The centrepiece is "Traces of Memory", a moving photographic exhibition that depicts modern-day remmants of the once-thriving Jewish community in the southeast of the country. You can also watch testimonies of survivors on video and peruse some seminal temporary exhibits such as "Polish Heros: Those Who Rescued Jews". Recently deceased British photo-journalist Chris Schwarz (1948-2007) is behind this thought-provoking exhibition, set in a converted ware-house.
