Shalom! World.
Vila Nova de Gaia - Portugal.
Vila Nova de Gaia already existed under the Roman Empire as the city of Cale. With the Moorish invasions in the eight century, the facto frontier between the islamic state and the christian one came to rest for a considerableperiod of time on the river Douro. With the constant raids and couter-raids, the town of Cale, or Gaia, was deserted and most of its inhabitants took refuge in Porto in the north side of the river.
The name of the double city of Porto and Gaia was frequently referred to in contemporary documents as "villa de Portucale".
The touristic zone is reunited near the river's side with Cafés, restaurants and wine houses that gives the visitors the opportunity to taste some of the best wines of the world. The experinece to enjoy the view of the Douro river by the telepheric is amazing.
Shalom! Aleichem.
